Somnath


History:
Somnath is a magnificent temple situated in Sagar Kant of Saurashtra in Gujarat state. One of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is in Jyotirlinga here in Somnath. Somnath is also mentioned in Rigveda. This temple of Somnath has been very attractive in front of many destructive foreign invaders who want to lure and convert to the temple glory. Whenever the temple has tried to destroy it, then it has been built again.
It’s said that Somraj first built a temple in Somnath, made of gold; this was rebuilt by Ravana in silver, by Krishna in wood and by Bhimdev in stone. The current serene, symmetrical structure was built to traditional designs on the original coastal site: it’s painted a creamy colour and boasts a little fine sculpture. The large, black Shiva lingam at its heart is one of the 12 most sacred Shiva shrines, known as jyotirlinga.

SOMNATH:
Somnath’s first temple is said to have existed 2000 years ago. Is. In 649 AD, King Maitre of Vallabhini built a second temple in place of the temple and renovated it. In 725, the old ruler of Sindh took his army and attacked the temple and destroyed the temple. Pratishtha King Nag Bhatt II constructed the temple for the third time in 815 using a red stone. In 1026, Mahmud Ghazni lent the precious jewels and property of Somnath temple. After looting, slaughtering innumerable pilgrims of the temple and burning the temple and destroying it. During 1026-1042 Solanki Raja Bhimdev built the fourth temple of Bhoj and Anhilwad Patan, Parmar King of Malwa.Somnath was destroyed when Delhi Sultanate occupied Gujarat in 1299. In 1394 it was destroyed again. In 1706, Mughal ruler Aurangzeb again demolished the temple.


RECONSTRUCTION:
India’s Iron Man and First Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on November 13, 1947 promised to rebuild the temple. Today’s Somnath Temple is built on its original place in seventh place. When the temple was rebuilt on December 1, 1995, then the Indian President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma dedicated the temple to the country. In 1951, when India’s first President Dr. When Rajendra Prasad proposed to purify Jyotirling, he said, “This temple of Somnath is a symbol of victory over construction on destruction”. The temple is built under Shri Somnath Trust And this trust is now monitoring the temple. Currently the chairman of the trust is former chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Sardar Patel was the first chairman of this trust.

Madhavpur Beach

History
According to folklore, Krishna married Rukmini at Madhavpur after first kidnapping her. This event is memorialised with a temple dedicated to lord Madhavrai and by an annual fair held in the village.

Madhvapur Temple:
Madhavpur is the site for a 15th centuary temple of Madhavraiji who is a form of Lord Krishna. The original temple has been badly damaged by attacks by Muslim invaders, however a ruined structure is still present and gives idea of original undamaged temple. A newly constructed temple is used for worship now adjacent to the old one.

A scenic town, Madhavpur is situated on a sandy coastile and is endowed with coconut trees and fertile agriculture land.It hosts the beautiful Madhavraiji Haveli Temple in addition to the Rukmini no choro,which marks the place where celebrated with an annual fair.Nearby are the ruins of a shiva temple,probably from the 12th c.The beach is not safe for swimming, but perfect for taking in the sea breeze.

Madhuvan is a beautiful and peaceful place blessed with variety of birds and trees. Tulsi Shyam

About The Place:
Tulsi Shyam Temple is a tourist center that is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Situated in the Una sub-district of the Junagadh District, the temple is found in the center of Gir and lies about 30 km from the Una Town. Known peculiarly for its great scenic beauty, the temple has beautiful hot water springs which are referred to as ‘Taptodak’ in the Puranas. Legend says that Lord Shri Krishna killed the demon named Tul and hence the place is associated with his name along with the name of Krishna as Shyama and is hence called the Tulsi Shyam Temple. This temple is believed to be seven hundred years old. In order to reach here, you need to climb 100 steep steps to the top.

Historical Context:
The statue of Tulsi Shyam here is believed to be some 3000 years old. This place is very famous for the hot springs in the state.Tulshi Shyaam is located on the Dhari-Una roadside in the Gir forest surroundings. This is a historical and also a peaceful place located amongst natural environment and in a small but dense forest.There are 3 hot water springs at the location with the 1st one filled with hot water, the second one filled with more hot water and the third water spring was having hot boiling water. The water is full of natural sulphur and saying goes if you take a deep full body in the water In the Indian Puranas these are refened to as 'Taptodak' .Legend says that Lord Krishna eliminated the demon called Tul and so the place is associated with his name along with that of Krishna as Shyam and is thus called Tulsishyam.





You can also visit a 700 years old The Rukmani Devi Temple nearby Tulsi Shyaam. it has over 100 steps to temple so its difficult for elders.Private and state transport buses are available to reach here. If you want to stay overnight, you can stay in government guest house. Food is also available there. You should be in your room before 9 am and after 6 pm as its a forest and wild animals like lions etc roaming around.
